Why I Do Not Wish Trump a Speedy Recovery

To appear generous and kind, a number of Trump opponents have said “they certainly wish the President a speedy recovery”. I most certainly do not. In fact I hope he has a very protracted and painful experience. If he dies in the course of his Covid episode, I will not mourn, not in the least. Here are the reasons why.

1. He has endangered my children’s lives, the lives of all of our children and grandchildren and great grandchildren. His dismantling of all the extant environmental controls will lead to countless deaths not only in America, but throughout the world.

“The US government in practice abandoned any concern over the climate crisis some time ago, with the Trump administration so far rolling back more than 100 environmental protections, including …a plan to curb emissions from coal-fired power plants, limits on pollution emitted from cars and trucks and even energy efficiency standards for lightbulbs. In an often chaotic presidency, Trump’s position on climate change has been unusually consistent — American fossil fuel production must be bolstered, restrictive climate regulations must be scrapped.”

Michael Mann, one of the most eminent climate scientists in the world:

“If we are going to avert ever more catastrophic climate change impacts, we need to limit warming below a degree and a half Celsius, a little less than three degrees Fahrenheit,” Mann said. “Another four years of what we’ve seen under Trump, which is to outsource environmental and energy policy to the polluters and dismantle protections put in place by the previous administration … would make that essentially impossible.”

2. His criminal mishandling of the CoronaVirus pandemic has led to the wholly uneccessary deaths of hundreds of thousands of people and the numbers continue to rise.

3. His depriving states of critical hospital equipment because “what did those states do for me?” should go down in history as one of the most criminal acts any President has committed against his own people. It also resulted in the deaths of thousands of people in the states he took his petty revenge upon.

4. His deliberate encouragement of neo-nazi and white supremacist groups and encouraging them to interfere in the U.S. election process alone, should place him behind bars for Treason.

5. His wholly unfounded claim of the “fraud” behind mail-in voting and deliberate undermining of the United States Postal Service to cripple that vote is yet another instance that should clearly be viewed as Treason against the American people.

6. His branding of New York, Seattle and Portland as “anarchist jurisdictions” is again part of his war against parts of the United States itself and should be considered an Act of Treason.

7. His continuous branding of media that doesn’t fawningly support him as “enemies of the people” and “fake news” — this from the greatest liar and fraudster the U.S. has ever known, is an attack on freedom of the press and an attack on democracy itself.

8. His use of the Presidency to level personal attacks on people he sees as “enemies” is such an abuse of power as to leave me without words to describe my dismay.

9. His incitement to violence at his rallies should be cause for his im mediate removal from office and criminal charges.

10. His flagrant disregard for the welfare of people as evidenced by his largely maskless rallies, his maskless Supreme Court nominee celebration in the Rose Garden (infecting 14 people so far) and then his endangering of Secret Service agents and now the Whitehouse itself by his now notorious “drive by”, and premature return to the Whitehouse blatently illustrate his indifference to the safety of others and his supreme arrogance.

This is a very incomplete list. These are only some of the reasons I do not wish him well, nor will I mourn his death. It may be noted that Treason, (which I think is an accurate characterization — and I think it says something of American fear he has managed to instill, that no one has actually raised this concept at a national level in the U.S. to date), has as its penalty, the death sentence. If this sentence is brought upon Donald Trump through the stupidity and cupidity of Donald Trump via the Coronavirus, I would say the universe has provided an appropriate remedy, and that, finally, at long last, justice will have been served.
